Bill Maher is known for his flagrant intellectualism and biting wit; he is one of those guys that people either love or hate, but no one stays indifferent to him. He will be appearing for two days only at The Palms Casino Resort on Oct. 10-11, so this is your chance to see him up close and personal.

Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO can be scathing political commentary, always has interesting guests, usually with a mix of political opinions, that discusses hot-button issues with sophisticated wit and a nimble mind you haven’t seen since the days of Dick Cavett. His comments sometimes go off into a rant and he is known for occasional outrageousness, such as his Halloween costume as crocodile guy Steve Irwin with a lance through his chest. The internet almost caught on fire commenting on it.

Maher started his career as the host of “Catch a Rising Star,” in 1979, at the New York City comedy club, then started making appearances on Letterman and The Tonight Show. Limited TV appearances included Sara starring Gina Davis and Max Headroom, the sci-fi series, a few appearances on Murder She Wrote and others.

He also appeared in some strangely named movies such as Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, which had to do with convincing the Piranha women to move to a reservation condo in Malibu, in which Maher plays a male chauvinist. Ratboy, was another interesting movie, whose only claim to fame was that it won the star and director of the movie, Sondra Locke, a Razzie nomination for the worst film made that year. People can only hope Maher had fun making the movies, as they were not Academy Award material.

In 1993, he had his own show, Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, that had a wide range of guests and included talk on such subjects as entertainment, pop culture and, of course, politics. The show won an Emmy and other awards.

Real Time with Bill Maher began in 2003 on HBO where it took off in popularity and made him a superstar on television. It has been nominated for six Writers Guild awards and over 10 Primetime Emmys. Maher currently holds the record of 22 for the most Emmy nominations between the two shows and has not won any of them, but he is a long way from finished.

The viewers never know what Bill Maher is going to say next and that is what makes him so interesting and popular. He is a little like your 80-year-old grannie except that he let himself become vocal at an earlier age.

If you want to spend an evening enjoying outrageous political humor and sniping, this is the event for you. Show time is at 8:00 p.m. in the Pearl Theater at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Tickets start at $50.00 and you can pick them up at Ticket Master.
