After a six-year absence the Red Bull Soapbox Race returns to Los Angeles. It will turn Elysian Park into a (non)motor speedway as the contestants race down Angels Point Road.

Hundreds of prospect speed demons applied to take part in the race and 64 brave teams were chosen from California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. The human-powered soapbox racers are designed not only for speed, but for style and attitude. On the way down the race course the racers will encounter chicanes, hairpin turns, jumps and speed producing straight aways. It will be 700 yards of adrenaline-pumping fun.

The contestants will be judged on three criteria: speed, creativity and showmanship so the soapbox racers have to make their cars fast and colorful. Judges will be Alex Caruso of the Los Angeles Lakers, Mikey Garcia of Showtime Boxing fame, skateboarding phenom Joey Brezinski, BMX star Mike “Hucker” Clark, and Patty Rodriguez from On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

For the fans there will be the BF Goodrich Garage, 7-Eleven Photo Booth and many food trucks. The event is free and there is also free parking at Dodger Stadium.

The Red Bull Soapbox Race takes place Sunday, August 20. The pits open at 9:30 a.m., and the show starts at 10:15 a.m. At 11 a.m. the race begins and the awards will be handed out in the afternoon.

Elysian Park is located at 929 Academy Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90012
