Jussie Smollett is a headliner all by himself.

He wasn’t the only big name at The Lost Holliday Los Angeles premiere, though, with Vivica A. Fox by his side and a roster of others (Mona Scott-Young, Jabari Redd, Brittany S. Hall, Miriam A. Hyman, Marquise Vilson, Londyn Carter, Memphis Cole, Leslie David Baker and Gina Belafonte) walking the red carpet.

Smollett (who co-wrote the script) believes “Vivica was the only person who could play the role in the film.” You can tell that they like and respect each other, but these actors were committed. Their scenes played out with such intensity that carried over off-camera.

The movie premiere was the ultimate fan experience with movie goers witnessing in real time stars in full view with the opportunity to get up close and personal. “It’s so much excitement and energy here. I can’t believe this. This is one of the things I was enamored by when I thought of Hollywood. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would be a part of a red carpet experience,” said one tourist just catching a movie at AMC The Grove.

Smollett and the cast did not disappoint. The actor plays a husband and construction worker in this drama, a tapestry of tales set around a holiday theme. Smollett (who also directs) takes a liking to his mother-in-law; Fox is a comedic grandmother who has a life altering encounter which turns out to be possibly one of the best things that happens to her.

The star power is intense in the transformative movie. Cynthia Bailey also appears in the film which received rave reviews at this year’s American Black Film Festival (ABFF).

“I have to make it clear that I would not have been able to make this movie. It’s me and my business partner Tom Wilson who run this super massive movie and are trying to build this company,” Smollett stated.

“I could not have done this film if it were not for Vivica and her producing partner Shelia and also Mona Scott Young and Tressa Smallwood. I just want to say thank y’all so much,” Smollett said.

“There have been throughout this project and really throughout my life people who have been there for me. There have been people who have held me up but no one has done that more than Black women and for that I’m forever grateful and most important to my mother who is the executive director on this film. I love you so much,” Smollett stated.

Smollett said, “Honestly, thank you so very much for sticking by us, for sticking by me. I really appreciate it.”

“I hope to make many more films for y’all. So thank you. Thank you so much,” he added.

The Lost Holliday opens September 27, 2024, by AMC Theatres.
