Writing From the Heart

Listen to this article

If you research all of the many sources of why writers write, you can find hundreds of various reasons and motivations. This posting may be my last until I complete my book, “The Rhythm of a Broken Heart”. I have so much gratitude for my editor and owner of this platform. They have allowed me to express a lifetime of feelings in the six months

They have posted my articles. I feel even more blessed that these have been viewed by nearly 11,000 since August.

I am in my eighth decade on this blue marble. I was born post-World War II, lived through the tumultuous 1960s, mourned a president, went to Woodstock ’69, and actively protested the Vietnam War. I’ve evolved from dial phones to the age of AI.

At this gorgeous sunset of my life, I now write so that the insights, experience, and knowledge I have gained can be passed in some form to you the reader, and to my grandchildren. When they reach adulthood, I likely will have moved on to the next realm so I want them to know the passion of how I lived my life, what I saw, and at least some of the emotions I experienced.

I am convinced that I lived in the best time in history. The evolution of music, the access to amazing health care, prosperity et al. At the same time, we have lost the passions that were incubating in the 60’s and 70’s. The anti-war, environmental, and world hunger movements and all of the idealistic activism that we were striving for then, has waned. I hope that in my book, I can inspire a new generation of my descendants and beyond, to drop their phones, close their computers, turn off the video games, and walk outside and breathe.

The physical, mental, and emotional detachment that is evolving within our society may be irreversible if we allow it to take everything away. Step away and live life, take up a cause, put back more than you take away.

My heart is full of gratitude for allowing me to express my deepest thoughts to all of you and to those beyond. Don’t allow the darkness of apathy to take over the earth. Reach out in the darkness.
