Listen to this articleBACKGROUND: On December 18th 2012 Ron Irwin dropped dead in his home. Moments later EMT’s arrived, restarted him and took him to the local hospital. Three days later as Irwin lay in a coma a physician told his family that “IF he survives he will never walk again.” So on his 70th birthday April 30th 2015 Irwin took his first annual Hollywood Health Hike of 14.2 miles. This will be his third annual Hollywood Health Hike.
BURBANK, CA — Ron Irwin announces final details of his third annual Hollywood Health Hike. At 8:30 a.m., April 30th 2017 Ron Irwin shall lead a group of all who join the hike from Kangan Water World at 1307 San Fernando Boulevard, Burbank, California to the Delphine Restaurant in the W Hotel, 6250 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California a distance of 14.2 miles on the chosen route. There each at their own expense may enjoy a great and healthy lunch before returning to Burbank via Metro, Uber or prearranged pick up. Why?
This is simply to get people to focus on more movement and better health. With well over 35% of American adults now clinically obese there has never been a more urgent need. There are no organizations to join, no dues to pay, no meetings to attend, it is simply a fairly long but beautiful hike ending with a great meal and a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. Obesity is far more than a mere fashion statement, it can and does bring with it heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and even cancer. The goal is greater awareness can lead to far better health and longer life.
“When I was taken to ICU in December 2012 I weighed more than 280 pounds. I had type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure and cancer. I now weigh 168 pounds and have none of those diseases. My one simple goal is to say by deed not just word “Hey if this 72 year old geezer can do this so can you.’ ” said Ron Irwin
