The U.S. Attorney’s office announced that early this morning the FBI arrested three people connected to the killers that carried out the attacks in San Bernardino on December 2. One of those arrested is the older brother of Syed Rizwan Farook, Syed Raheel Farook. The two others are Mariya Chernykh and Tatiana Farook.

In a statement to the press, U.S. Attorney Eileen Decker said, “This is the latest step in the comprehensive investigation into the horrific attacks in San Bernardino. We owe the victims and the entire community of San Bernardino a thorough investigation that uncovers all criminal activity surrounding these events.”

The five-count indictment is centered around a fraudulent marriage between Enrique Marquez, who has been charged with aiding the killers in the December attack, and Mariya Chernykh. Marquez is accused of taking money to marry Chernykh and that the two never lived together.

The arrests took place in Corona at Farook’s home and in Ontario at the home of Chernykh.

Both Marquez and Raheel Farook are suspected of marrying Russian nationals in order to facilitate legal status for the two women. According to the reporting, Raheel Farook is a U.S. Navy veteran and is said to have received medals for service in the “global war on terrorism.” Those could range from a Good Conduct Medal that servicemen and women receive for every four years of active service without disciplinary actions, to our nation’s highest honors.

The three have not been connected to the terror attacks directly, but the FBI is still looking for Rizwan Farook’s laptop which might hold clues to any people that may have aided the two killers.

The three arrested today are expected to appear in federal court for arraignment later today.
