With great young pitching and opportunistic hitting — especially from Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Grandson and the NLCS MVP Daniel Murphy — the New York Mets swept the Chicago Cubs, winning Game Four at Chicago’s Wrigley’s Field, 8-3.

The scoring started for the Mets when Lucas Duda shrugged off his cobwebs and hit a three-run homer in the first. In the second inning he hit a two-run double, collecting five runs off Cubs starter Jason Hammel.

The Cubs got on the board in the fourth when Kyle Schwarber grounded out to first, allowing Jorge Solar to score, and putting Kris Bryant on third and Anthony Rizzo on second. But that was all the runs the Cubs would get off Mets starter Steven Matz.

The young pitcher got into trouble in the fifth, so Mets manager called in Bartolo Colon, who didn’t allow a run in that inning or the next.

It was in the top of the eighth when Daniel Murphy hit a two-run homer, becoming the only man in World Series history to hit homers in sex consecutive playoff games.

Bryant answered with a two-run homer of his own, after Solar got on base with a double, but that was all the scoring the Cubs would get for the game.

The game ended when Mets closer Jeurys Famila struck out Dexter Fowler looking.

Since starting in the post season, the Mets have taken the “amazin’ ” title to a new level, dominating the Dodgers with their pitching and hitting and now the Cubs.

This will be New York’s first appearance in the World Series since 2000, when they lost to cross town rivals New York Yankees.

Which ever American League team goes to the World Series — The Kansas City Royals or the Toronto Blue Jays — they will have a powerful opponent in the New York Mets.

The Royals lead the ALCS 3-2 against the Blue Jays. Game Six will be on Friday in Kansas City.
