Warren Van Dam – What Skills Do You Need To Be a Food Blogger?
Food bloggers have a great time of it, they get to eat out in fancy and delicious restaurants, usually for free or at a heavily discounted price, and they are relied upon to share tips of hot new places to eat, and foods to try. Not everyone can be as famous as the likes of Warren van Dam, however, and there is a lot more to becoming a food blogger than meets the eye. If you do have a passion for tasty food however and you’d like to try your hand at being a food blogger, here are the skills you will need.
Understanding of Good Food
You don’t have to become a gastronomical expert to become a food blogger, but you do have to have a great palate and an understanding of what tastes good. Food blogging is about sharing great food with people, it is not about accepting any free plate to promote on your page. Ultimately people are going to be trusting you when it comes to recommendations, and if you want a great reputation then you’ll have to show them that you know what you are talking about.
Great Photography Skills
Generally speaking, we eat with our eyes on social media and that is exactly why it is so critical that you have great photography skills. There is no point in going to a restaurant, eating amazing food and then trying to tell your followers about it, if you haven’t got a great-looking photo of what you have eaten. If you check out some of the world’s biggest food blogs, you will see that they have taken great care in getting the image just right, so that viewers will be blown away.
Networking Abilities
Simply heading out to eat and then writing about it is not enough, you have to hustle and network with the best of them to get your name out there. This means attending food events, and generally getting your name in people’s faces so that you can carve yourself a career in the industry. Sadly this is not a case of your building a great social media page and then expecting people to come, you have to build it, make it look great, and then shout about from the rooftops. There is a lot of competition in this game, so you have to do all that you can to rise to the top.
Wide Range or Niche
There are two options when you become a food blogger, you can either stay niche, such as picking just desserts to showcase on your page, or you can provide a broad range. What you cannot do, however, at least not if you want success, is to focus on one main food type, and then occasionally stray from it, this just becomes confusing.
Be sure that you have the skills needed before you embark on your new adventure as a food blogger, and remember, the food should always look as good as it tastes.
