Congresswoman Barbara Lee responds to Trump and Sessions’ attack on California
In response to President Trump and U.S. Attorney General Jefferson Sessions suing the state of California, Congresswoman Lee has this response:
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) released the following statement after the Trump Administration filed suit against the State of California for refusing to target immigrant families and undermine the work of local law enforcement:
“Last night, President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions launched a baseless legal attack on California. Let me be clear: this lawsuit is rooted in a xenophobic hostility toward immigrants. My district is home to seven proud sanctuary cities: Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, and San Leandro. We will not be intimidated by this Administration. Targeting sanctuary cities is just another excuse for this president and this Administration to terrorize immigrants and bully local law enforcement.
“Ours is a nation of immigrants, it always has been and it always will be. In California, we embrace that truth and welcome the rich diversity immigrant communities bring to our state. As this president continues to betray our fundamental American values, I will keep fighting to protect my constituents and the State of California.”
