High surf advisory for today

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the coast of Los Angeles County, especially west-facing beaches. This includes Catalina Island.

With the advisory they also say there will be strong rip currents that can quickly carry people away from the shoreline. If caught in a rip current remember to swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the rip current and you should always swim near lifeguards.

For surfers, we should expect waves of 1-3 feet this morning that will be increasing throughout the day. By Friday they should be 5-7 feet, with some sets reaching as high as 12 feet.

The NWS also advised there could be “sneaker” waves that can wash people off beaches and jetties, so be careful if you are close to the water today.

The advisory ends jest below the Los Angeles County line, but there is a small craft advisory as far south as San Clemente. Expect heavy seas.

We can expect some rain this morning, but it should end before noon. Parts of San Diego will be getting rain into the afternoon.

All of Southern California should be experiencing partly cloudy to sunny skies beginning this afternoon, depending on your location. We should be experiencing sunny, or partly cloudy skies, with temperatures in the mid-to-high 60’s for at least the next ten days.
