Hope For Paws: Saving homeless animals in LA

Eldad Hagar has a passion for four-legged friends and their well-being, and started rescuing animals off the streets at an early age. When he moved to Los Angeles, he quickly became aware of the pet overpopulation problem and started Hope For Paws, a 501c3 nonprofit organization to help save the lives of homeless animals.

“We rescue dogs and all other animals who are suffering on the streets and in the shelters,” states Hagar. “Our goal is to change the lives of these animals, place them in loving forever homes, and educate people on the importance of companion animals in our society.”

One of his latest rescues is Houdini, a little Chihuahua rat terrier mix who was living on the docks at the Port of San Pedro for years before Hope for Paws saved him. Once a helpless dog – living on scraps and afraid of people – Houdini has magically transformed and is now loving life but still awaiting his forever home.

Abandoned in rivers, thrown out on highways, or discarded in dumpsters… these are some of the stories Hope for Paws receives daily. And without a minute’s notice, Hagar is out the door and off on his next rescue mission. No matter what time of day or night, he’s saving the lives of others, one paw at a time.
