Is Surgery the Right Option for Your ACL Tear Injury?

Are you wondering if you should get ACL repair surgery right away or wait? Research shows that surgery is not always the best solution. Fortunately, there are non-surgical options, like an ACL injection treatment, that can help heal your injury.
Research Indicates Surgery May Not Be Best Solution for ACL Tears
The New England Journal of Medicine published a study that compared a group of people who had undergone ACL repair surgery early to a group that waited and received physical therapy first. The results showed that those receiving surgery early did not have an advantage over the group that waited while doing physical therapy.
The study also showed that of those who did physical therapy first, 61% did not proceed with surgery. The improvement from physical therapy was sufficient to address their ACL problem.
Another study, published by the National Center for Biotechnology Research (NCBI), followed patients for five years. The patient group that had ACL surgery early on had almost twice as many instances of arthritis as the group that waited for surgery.
Based on this research, it is better to try physical therapy or other options like an ACL injection treatment before ACL repair surgery. Many people can avoid this surgery altogether, lessening their chances of developing arthritis later.
ACL Injection Treatment is an Effective Non-Surgical Solution
Dr. Shounuck Patel is a well-known Orthopedic Specialist in Southern California. Dr. Patel has successfully healed ACL tears with a minimally invasive injection of a patient’s own stem cells. Dr. Patel uses an x-ray guided injection process that allows precise delivery to the injury. He suggests the stem cell ACL injection treatment as the first way to attempt healing of an ACL injury.
