Elections Have Consequences: The 2025 Edition
Happy Effin’ 4th of July
It is at least ironic, if not hypocritical, to hear the current Speaker of the House, Republican Michael Johnson of Louisiana, tell reporters that passage of the Big Ugly Bullshit Bill will help preserve the rights and liberties of Americans — now, as thousands of people are being kidnapped off the streets, snatched out of the California Central Valley farms, taken from their jobs in stores, warehouses, factories and restaurants.
Then Johnson had the gall to thank God for helping pass this bill … Have you ever read Matthew 25:31-40 Mr. Speaker? Let me help you out:
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, “I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (NIV)
The Big Ugly Bullshit Bill spits on those supposedly Christian sentiments. Just to be clear, I know real, bonified Christians who look at the MAGA/GOP Cult and are appalled. Looking at those words of the Messiah, Jesus Christ who told his followers to welcome the strangers (immigrants), to feed the hungry, clothe the poor etc. No one — absolutely no one — in that MAGA Cult gives a damn about what their … what, alleged? … religion actually says.
Mike Johnson said this Big Ugly Bullshit Bill will make America stronger, safer and more prosperous. Gawd almighty the MAGA Cult leaders lie with fearless arrogance, as if there won’t be any accounting for their sins — their crimes.

The fat-ass, orange faced convicted felon said of congressional Democrats, “The only reason [the Democrats] didn’t vote for [his big, ugly bullshit bill] is because they hate Trump.”
No, no, Mr. Convicted Felon. That’s not the only reason. It’s a very good reason, of course, but not the only one. There’s the fact that it strips health care away from tens of millions of poor people — including the working poor, you fat dimwit — that it takes food away from tens of millions of poor children and makes it much harder for people to find funding to go to college … then there’s the fact that this Big, Ugly Bullshit Bill will give the richest one percent billions more tax cuts that add at least $3 trillion to the national debt. And it is the biggest attack on Medicaid in history.
So no, Mr. Fat, Orange Convicted Felon, hating you isn’t the only reason Democrats didn’t vote for your Big Ugly Bullshit Bill … But it sure feels good to launch a big, wet and gooey loogie in your direction.
How did 77 million people actually vote for this lunatic?

The felon’s comments reminded me of a funny meme I saw on social media.
It was great to see House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries speak for more than eight hours in the well of the House of Representatives to protest the Big Ugly Bullshit Bill “No matter what the odds, we’ve got to press on,” Jeffries said, quoting the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
He also quoted the late Congressman John Lewis who said “Don’t get lost in a sea of despair …” Something to remember in these very dark times.
Even in the convicted felon’s first term I didn’t think I would ever post or fly an upside down U.S. flag, which is a signal our nation is in trouble. I can’t even put it at the top of this post. As my friend Vicki mentioned, “there’s nothing to celebrate,” this #IndependenceDay

As we are getting ready to watch parades, enjoy cookouts and then watch more fireworks, there will be plain, peaceful law-abiding Americans and legal residents kidnapped from their families and workplaces and sent to concentration camps around the country, including that new gulag in the middle of the Florida Everglades, known as the “Alligator Alcatraz.”
Some Fox (not) News hosts were yukking it up at the idea of putting human beings into those cages surrounded by deadly animals like alligators, 16-20-foot snakes, actual Florida panthers (not the NHL Stanley Cup champs), not to mention disease-carrying mosquitos and other flying bugs. Gosh that’s so funny, brutalizing people, subjecting them to torturous conditions. Let’s have a laugh …
It’s Independence Day … “Independence” sounds like a myth right now, but yes, the calendar says July 4, 2025. So, I end with one of my favorite songs for this day, recorded over 50 years ago at Winterland in San Francisco.:
Happy 4th of July.

Tim Forkes started as a writer on a small alternative newspaper in Milwaukee called the Crazy Shepherd. Writing about entertainment, he had the opportunity to speak with many people in show business, from the very famous to the people struggling to find an audience. In 1992 Tim moved to San Diego, CA and pursued other interests, but remained a freelance writer. Upon arrival in Southern California he was struck by how the elected government officials and business were so intertwined, far more so than he had witnessed in Wisconsin. His interest in entertainment began to wane and the business of politics took its place. He had always been interested in politics, his mother had been a Democratic Party official in Milwaukee, WI, so he sat down to dinner with many of Wisconsin’s greatest political names of the 20th Century: William Proxmire and Clem Zablocki chief among them. As a Marine Corps veteran, Tim has a great interest in veteran affairs, primarily as they relate to the men and women serving and their families. As far as Tim is concerned, the military-industrial complex has enough support. How the men and women who serve are treated is reprehensible, while in the military and especially once they become veterans. Tim would like to help change that.
