Michael Flynn resigns as National Security Advisor
After it was reported President Trump’s National Security Advisor, retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn had lied about phone calls to the Russian Ambassador to the U.S., before he was sworn in as the National Security Advisor, the embattled Flynn resigned from his post. President Trump has picked Lt. General Joseph Keith Kellogg, Jr. to be the acting National Security Advisor.
In his letter to the media Flynn said, “In the course of my duties as the incoming National Security Advisor, I held numerous phone calls with foreign counterparts, ministers, and ambassadors. These calls were to facilitate a smooth transition and begin to build the necessary relationships between the President, his advisors and foreign leaders. Such calls are standard practice in any transition of this magnitude,” Flynn wrote in his resignation letter, which was provided by the White House.
“Unfortunately, because of the fast pace of events, I inadvertently briefed the Vice President Elect and others with incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian Ambassador. I have sincerely apologized to the President and the Vice President, and they have accepted my apology.”
Flynn has been controversial from the moment he joined the Trump Campaign. He is known for his close ties with Russia and for promoting conspiracy theories. He has promoted wild accusations about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton being involved in a Satanic child pornography ring, which resulted in a shooting at a New Jersey pizza parlor after Flynn’s son tweeted the story about the ring being located there. He also promoted the story that former President Barack Obama was a secret Muslim Jihadist who had laundered money for terrorists, and that the United Nations was engaged in a secret, “One World Order” plot called “Agenda 21.”
Vice President Mike Pence was reportedly upset with Flynn, feeling as if the former advisor had misled him about the telephone conversations he had with the Russian Ambassador. When questioned in the past few days Flynn said he couldn’t remember with certainty if he had spoken about the sanctions against Russia with the ambassador. When Flynn’s calls first came to light he told everyone it was just to extend holiday wishes. Vice President-Elect Pence then went on television shows defending Flynn.
President Trump had received information from then acting Attorney General Sally Q. Yates that Flynn was vulnerable to Russian blackmail, before Trump fired her for not supporting the Muslim/Travel ban that was eventually shot down by the 9th District Court of Appeals.
There are several candidates that are considered frontrunners to replace Flynn.
We are not the typical news website – nor do we wish to be. We will be offering more than news and blogs, but an opportunity for fiction writers, poets, comedians and musicians to showcase their talent and skills. Much like when the Beatles formed Apple Corps Ltd, they opened the door to all kinds of inspiring talent that never really got a shot. From that came the likes of James Taylor and others. We hope by providing a similar approach we can shine the light on some tremendous undiscovered talent and at the same time offer some familiar voices who live in Los Angeles and beyond.
