Shark sighting update
Another hammerhead shark has been captured on video in the waters off La Jolla over the weekend. Just last month kayakers came in contact with hammerheads (here) and while it is unusual for hammerhead sharks to be so close to shore, lifeguards and marine biologists assure everyone they are relatively peaceful creatures.
This latest sighting was a mile from shore and the increase in hammerhead sightings can be attributed to the warmer waters at this time. Right now in San Diego County ocean temperatures are reported to be in the mid to high 70s. Camp Pendleton and Oceanside are reporting 76°f. To the north Laguna Beach is reporting 75°f, Huntington and Newport Beaches they are 71-73°f, Santa Monica is reporting 72°f.
San Diego Fire and Rescue — the lifeguards — ask you to report any hammerhead sightings to them so they can assess the risk to the public.
Los Angeles Post-Examiner is not the typical news platform. We go beyond headlines, creating a space for fiction writers, poets, comedians and musicians to share their talent and be discovered. Inspired by the Beatles’ vision behind Apple Corps Ltd, they opened the door to all kinds of inspiring talent that never really got a shot. From that came the likes of James Taylor and many others. By providing a similar approach we can shine the light on some tremendous undiscovered talent and at the same time offer some familiar voices who live in Los Angeles and beyond.
