Third Annual Hollywood Health Hike April 30
Listen to this articleOn December 18th 2012 Ron Irwin dropped dead in his home. His heart and lungs STOPPED. But as he fell to the floor he had just enough presence of mind to dial 9-1-1 on his cell phone. That was his last conscious act for many days. On that day Ron Irwin weighed about 290 pounds. After 26 days in hospital Ron began a long journey to recovery that focused primarily on shedding his excess weight for he had learned the very hard way just how deadly obesity really is. Obesity causes heart failure, greatly increases the risk of diabetes and even some forms of cancer. Ron knows because he had them all and eventually beat them all. Now he is totally committed to waking the world to the horrible consequences of obesity largely through example. Today Ron weighs 168 pounds and walks no less than 13.1 miles each and every day, the equal of 162 marathons per year. Obesity exists in over 37% of the American population and even more in some other places. So on his 70th birthday April 30th 2015 Ron celebrated by taking his first annual Hollywood Health Hike. His message was and remains a simple but powerful one. “If I can do this and beat obesity so can you.” They call that setting an example by action.

Ron wants the world to join him in this extremely important truly lifesaving message by example. Young, old, short tall, obese or not, man, woman, boy or girl it doesn’t matter, only real commitment to doing the right thing and setting a positive potentially lifesaving example that is all that matters. So everyone one is invited to join Ron. Here are just some of his co-walkers:

Kari F. Irwin – daughter, USC student and talented SAG/AFTRA actress.
Destiny Ervin – AP Student, Varsity Track and Cross Country, actress and model.
To name but a few of those who have joined the Hollywood Health Hike and joined with Ron in his war on obesity. Now it is time for you to join as well.
Now celebrating his 72nd birthday Ron leads the Third Annual Hollywood Health Hike that will depart at exactly 8:30 a.m. Sunday April 30th 2017 from Kangan Water World, 1307 N. San Fernando Boulevard, Burbank, CA and end at the Delphine Restaurant in the W Hotel, 6250 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, CA at about 12:30 p.m. same day. The distance is 14.2 miles and the route is essentially San Fernando Road to Los Feliz Boulevard to Western Avenue to Hollywood Boulevard taking in some amazing sights along the way including such iconic images as the Capitol Records Building, The Pantages Theatre and, of course, many “stars” on the “Walk of Fame.”
There is plenty of free parking near the departure point and the shop owner Harvey Branman shall once again graciously provide each participant with FREE purified alkaline Kangan water for the walk. Lunch at the Delphine Restaurant is optional and the responsibility of each participant as is providing for their own return transportation to Burbank. The W Hotel is directly above a Metro Station and UBER and LYFT are also options for the return.
