Casey Fien called up for Dodgers

In a press release on Saturday the Los Angeles Dodgers announced they had selected the contract for right-handed pitcher Casey Fien, from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Julio Urías back to Oklahoma City.

The 19-year old Urías made his major league debut in New York against the Mets on Friday night, pitching just 2.2/3 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits, throwing 82 pitches. He struck out three batters, but allowed four walks.

Fien was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and sent to the OKC Dodgers where he appeared in six games. Although his ERA is 5.87 with OKC, he struck out nine batters against only two walks.  Her also recorded a save for OKC.

A native of Santa Rosa and La Palma, California, Fien had been drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2006 where he stayed until 2010 before going to the Minnesota Twins. He’s pitched in 208 games for the Twins and while with Minnesota this season he appeared in 14 games, striking out 12 and walking three.

Fien was drafted out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

To make room on the 40-man roster the Dodgers designated outfielder James Ramsey for assignment.
