Hard Knocks with the Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are in training camp at UC Irvine — with HBO’s Hard Knocks crew — and many of the practices are open to the public. They also have their Fanfest coming up this Saturday in the L.A. Memorial Coliseum.
So far Coach Jeff Fisher and the players are enjoying the crowds, which on Tuesday (Day 4 of camp) was estimated to be around 2,500 people. Wide receiver Tavon Austin told reporters, “It’s cool. It shows that at least they love us. At least they came out. One thing about it we know they’re going to be here (L.A. Coliseum) on Sundays. That’s the main thing.”
Number one pick Jared Goff is always a topic of conversation with Coach Fisher. He told the reporters, “I thought he did well, he made some really good throws.” As important as Goff’s throwing ability is his leadership qualities and mental acuity. “I thought he was making really good decisions,” Fisher said, adding “We had a little bit of noise the last period, so they had to focus in the huddle and I thought he took charge of it. He’s progressing well.”
As of now Case Keenum is the starting quarterback and according to Fisher, Keenum is doing well in that role. “He’s handled it great. He has a great feel for it. Understands the offense, great in the huddle.”
Then there are the intangible QB qualities coaches look for in training camp. “He does all those little, extra, subtle things that you need to do as a quarterback. He’s had a great offseason. A little setback during OTAs, arm got sore, but he worked out real hard and he’s doing well.”
Keenum told reporters, “Obviously you feed off of good plays — great plays — and I think they like it when you throw them touchdowns.” He added, “I like it when they catch touchdowns and get open, so, I think that sort of stuff builds camaraderie and like I said before: chemistry between the receivers and quarterbacks.”
We have some photos by Claudia Gestro from training camp you might enjoy. If you do attend one of the practices, or the Fanfest on Saturday, keep your eye out for the HBO Hard Knocks crew. They will be taping for the show.

We are not the typical news website – nor do we wish to be. We will be offering more than news and blogs, but an opportunity for fiction writers, poets, comedians and musicians to showcase their talent and skills. Much like when the Beatles formed Apple Corps Ltd, they opened the door to all kinds of inspiring talent that never really got a shot. From that came the likes of James Taylor and others. We hope by providing a similar approach we can shine the light on some tremendous undiscovered talent and at the same time offer some familiar voices who live in Los Angeles and beyond.
