Chargers prepare for Broncos
It’s been a good week here at Chargers Park. After a dramatic win in Jacksonville against the Jaguars, the San Diego Chargers have renewed confidence for their next game — and they will need it because they will face the Denver Broncos, in Qualcomm Stadium.
It won’t be easy defeating the division leaders. Quarterback Philip Rivers said, “It’s a defensive coordinator (Wade Phillips) I have a great deal of respect for, and it’s a defense that’s really good.”
Rivers ticked off the accomplishments of the Denver defense like he was checking down defensive players on the line. “Top to bottom, they do it all. The play against the run well, they play against the pass well — shot, they’ve won a couple games this year and they didn’t [allow] a touchdown from the other side. It’s impressive.”
The Broncos just put an end to the unbeaten season of the New England Patriots so Denver has a lot of confidence as well.
The Broncos haven’t had Peyton Manning under center for several weeks, he’s been out recovering from a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot, but that hasn’t stopped them from winning. Back up QB Brock Osweiler 646 yards, four touchdowns and only two interceptions. Rivers had good things to say about Osweiler. The two had met when Rivers went to visit his former North Carolina State offensive coordinator, Noel Mazzone, who is now the coordinator at UCLA. “I was impressed when he was coming out,” adding, “He’s done a heck of a job these last few weeks.”
Rivers has stayed positive throughout the season, bouncing back from every loss to prepare for the next game. He looks forward to this next challenge for his team. “Getting a win last week, getting another week of preparation, Play a division opponent, we’ll be riled up and ready to go.”
