4 Simple Tips for Sending Flowers Internationally

Listen to this article

Whether it’s a birthday, Mother’s Day, or a major milestone, flowers are always appreciated as a gift. But what if the recipient lives overseas?

Many flower delivery companies now offer international delivery services, allowing you to celebrate your loved one’s special day no matter where in the world they are.

Follow these four simple tips to make your international flower delivery a success.

1. Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

International deliveries take more time, and there are several factors that can delay a shipment, such as weather, holidays, or high demand.

For example, if you plan to send flowers to Barcelona, Spain for Sant Jordi, when men traditionally send roses to women, you may miss the date if you wait until April 20 to order your flowers (3 days before the festival).

Don’t wait until the last minute to order your flowers. Plan ahead. It’s better for the flowers to arrive a little early than several days after the occasion.

2. Keep Time Zones in Mind

When sending flowers overseas, it’s important to keep the recipient’s time zone in mind. The last thing you want is for the flowers to arrive too early or too late because there was confusion over dates and times.

Let’s say that you wanted to send flowers to Greece from USA. The U.S. has nine time zones, so it’s important to plan your delivery properly. There is a seven-hour time difference between the eastern U.S. and Greece. The time difference grows as you move farther out west in the U.S. (there’s a 10-hour time difference between California and Greece).

Most flower delivery companies that offer international deliveries know that time zone differences can be confusing. Typically, you can choose a date and time based on the recipient’s time zone to make your life easier.

3. Choose a Reputable Flower Service

Whether you’re sending flowers next door or halfway across the world, it’s important to choose a reputable florist.

Some people prefer to work with local florists, but this can be tricky if there is a language barrier or delivery limitations.

Look for flower services that specialize in international deliveries. Their experience and expertise will help ensure that your flowers arrive on time and in beautiful condition.

4. Choose Your Add-Ons Carefully

Most flower delivery services allow you to add chocolates, vases, balloons and stuffed animals to your order (for an additional fee).

While these additions can make the gift extra-special, it’s important to remember the distance your package will have to travel before reaching the recipient. It’s most difficult to safely transport glass vases and balloons long distances.

I like how you mentioned choosing a date and time that works with the recipient’s time zone. My friend wants to send flowers to her husband that is in France for the next month. I’ll be sure to share this with her so she can know what to do before sending those flowers.
