Dodgers select contract for Julio Urías
The Los Angeles just announced they have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Julio Urías from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 19-year-old will make his Major League debut as the Dodgers’ starting pitcher tonight at New York against the Mets.
The young starter’s last game was on May 20 versus the Salt Lake Angels.. He struck out five, allowing three hits in five shutout innings. Areas enters tonight’s game with a 27 scoreless inning streak behind him. The last time he allowed a run was on April 22.
He led the Pacific Coast League in ERA (1.10), WHIP (0.78) and opponents’ batting average (.176), getting 44 strikeouts against just eight walks in 41.0 innings. Urías entered the 2016 season rated the top left-handed pitching prospect and the fourth-best overall prospect in baseball, by MLB.com.
Areas was originally signed by Los Angeles as an amateur free agent on Aug. 17, 2012 out of Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico.
As we noted yesterday, UrÃas will be the youngest starting pitcher since Dick Calmus, who took the mound against the Milwaukee Braves, August 23, 1963, at Dodger Stadium. He is also the youngest starting pitcher to make his debut as a starter since Rex Barney made his entrance into the bigs on August 18, 1943. Barney was 18 years and 242 days old.
The Dodgers created room on the 40-man roster by transferring right-handed pitcher Yimi Garcia (right biceps soreness) to the 60-day disabled list and optioning left-hander Luis Avilan to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

We are not the typical news website – nor do we wish to be. We will be offering more than news and blogs, but an opportunity for fiction writers, poets, comedians and musicians to showcase their talent and skills. Much like when the Beatles formed Apple Corps Ltd, they opened the door to all kinds of inspiring talent that never really got a shot. From that came the likes of James Taylor and others. We hope by providing a similar approach we can shine the light on some tremendous undiscovered talent and at the same time offer some familiar voices who live in Los Angeles and beyond.
